Getting Started

Play Roshambo against the evil Dr. Markov. Madeline the dog will move up or down depending on your win or lose at each turn. Madeline gets to escape when you win the game. You can improve your odds of winning by analyzing data in a graph and recognizing patterns in Markov's action.

To play the game:

  1. Click on Rock, Paper, or Scissors buttons for your play against Markov.
  2. Game ends when Madeline escapes or gets banished back to the lab.

To analyze Markov's game play, click on the Tables icon in the CODAP toolbar to open a table with your data. Click on the Graph icon to see a visualization of your data.

The Case Table

  1. Take a look at how the table is organized, including the column headings on the left and right sides of the table. Hover over the column headings. What happens?
  2. What happens when you click on the “+” or “-“ symbols in the middle?
  3. What happens when you click on a line on the right side table? What happens in the graph?

The Graph

  1. Take a look at the graph. What do the dots represent?
  2. What happens when you click on a point on the graph? Did anything happen in the table?
  3. Click on the Ruler menu at the top right side of the graph window. Click on "Show Count". What do the numbers in the graph represent?
