I have used CODAP the last few years in a middle school classroom.  We seem to have difficulties with some of the features.  For example, sometimes the ipads are unable to “drag” an attribute to the graph.  We can get around this by clicking on the axis and using the drop down menu, but there are no options to get an attribute onto the middle of the graph if they are not able to drag.

Another issue we have is that sometimes none of the tools are clickable,  Students select data that they want to “hide” and then the tool is available, but does nothing when they click on it.

We use Chrome and Safari to run CODAP and we seem to have various issues with both.  The ipads just don’t want to cooperate with CODAP.  Any ideas on work arounds?

    Hi Angela,

Yes, CODAP on iPad is finicky. (We’re working on a complete reimplementation of CODAP that will fix this, but its release is still a ways off.) I find that if I touch and hold a bit on the attribute I want to drag, it responds somewhat more reliably. I know this is difficult advice to communicate to a classroom of students, though.

We haven’t seen the issue you mention about the tools sometimes becoming unclickable. Is this something you’re experiencing on iPads or is it something you experience on computers? I’m afraid I only have the usual advice of quitting and restarting the browser (force quitting on an iPad) to give the browser a chance to refresh all its memory resources. If you come across a reproducible case, that would be extremely helpful!

    Best,

    Bill
