I’m curious about what sorts of geocoding/reverse geocoding capabilities might be available in CODAP. I know about looking up a state or county boundary to make a map and view data on it, which is a great feature. I was looking at a data set recently that had latitude and longitude specified, but not the name of the city/town and state for each location, which I wanted to know. I found an online service to look this up for me and add the place names to my spreadsheet, but I was curious if there might be the capability to do this sort of thing with a function in CODAP (or look up and map latitude and longitude based on a place name). Thanks!

    Hi Jacob,

There isn’t any facility in CODAP for the capabilities you describe. We have, however, added a feature to the NOAA Weather plugin that allows you to type in the name of a location and have the plugin choose the nearest weather station to that location. Check it out!

Thanks, Bill, I will check that out. What I did was easy enough, but I just thought I’d ask if CODAP had any of these capabilities. If anyone is interested, I used the free geoservices from Texas A&M University: https://geoservices.tamu.edu/

Also, I might as well share here two useful tools I found to help with geocoding/reverse geocoding, if anyone wants resources:
