Is there a limit to the size of the CVS file? Number of data points?

Hello,There is no intrinsic limit, but, in practice 5000 data points is a reasonable limit for use in classrooms. And with many classroom computers even that many points slows things down enough that the students’ experience is adversely affected. When you import a CSV CODAP checks the size and, if it is more than 5000 cases, suggests that you sample rather than import the whole file.On the good news front, the new version of CODAP that we’re working on now will be able to handle¬†much larger datasets.Bill

Can we set the number of imports from 5000 to 500?

There is no way to change the¬†default number of cases to be imported. It is hard coded as 5000. But, as you know, if the number of lines in a ‘csv’ file is greater than 5000, when the dialog box you can change the number of cases to import to anything you like, including 500.If I may ask, what is the reason you would like to change it?

I’m working with CODAP, and it’s slow. Would increasing the CPU help improve the speed?

Having a faster CPU definitely helps, but that’s not usually an option for folks to upgrade their computer. On a high end machine one can work pretty comfortably with 5 or 10 thousand cases. However, if you are struggling with 500 cases there maybe something else going on with your machine. Even low end Chromebooks should be able to handle that number of cases pretty easily. If you have many applications open at once (or tabs on your browser running computationally heavy pages) using up both CPU and memory, that might explain the slow down.
